For the second consecutive weekend, a local minor baseball team is hosting provincials.
Last weekend, the Grande Prairie Mosquito AA Reds and Midget AA Reds hosted.
This weekend the Grande Prairie Pee Wee AA Reds host Tier I provincials at Evergreen Park.
Eight teams are competing in the tournament, including the Parkland Twins Blue, Provost Pilots, St. Albert Cardinals Red, Red Deer Braves, Olds Spitfires, Strathmore Reds and Wainwright Outlaws.
Friday, the Reds open round-robin play at noon on Diamond #1 against the St. Albert. On Saturday, the Reds play Strathmore at 9 a.m. and then play the Outlaws in their final-round robin game at 6 p.m.
This season the Reds finished 14-5 in Tier I play – second to the Spitfires who finished 18-1. The Reds scored 282 runs and allowed 149 runs against.
Tier I provincial games are all being played on Diamond #1 at Evergreen Park.
Peewee Bantam AA Reds at provincials
On the road this weekend are the Grande Prairie Bantam AA Reds #2 who are playing at Tier I provincials in Strathmore.
Friday, the Reds open against the Provost Pilots at 6 p.m. On Saturday, the Reds play the Camrose Cougars Royal at 9 a.m., followed by Innisfail at 3 p.m.
This season the Reds finished sixth in Bantam AA Tier I play with a 11-7 record, along with 167 runs and 128 against.
Lights Midget AAA at provincials
The Northern Lights Midget AAA baseball team is competing at Tier I provincials this weekend in St. Albert.
Sunday, the Lights open against the Sherwood Park Athletics, and then play the St. Albert Cardinals – the league’s best defensive team who only allowed 94 runs against – and Red Deer Braves on Monday.
This season the Lights finished with a 19-19 record and scored 235 runs and allowed 216 against.
