Evergreen Park is seeking a motivated individual to fill the position of Communications and Sponsorship Manager.  This position will report directly to the General Manager and will play a key role in revenue generation for the Park.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Develop, implement and maintain strategic communications and marketing plan for Evergreen Park.
• Research and identify prospective sponsorship partners.
• Maintain inventory of sponsorship assets and partnerships.
• implement measurement tools for sponsorship program.
• Develop and implement marketing and advertsing camapigns.
• Manage all communications including print and web based materials.

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary desigantion in Communications, Sponsorship, Marketing or equivalent career experience.
• Self-starter with sound judgement who can manage a demanding workload

Assets:

• Experience working in a board governance organization
• Strong community connection and knowledge of Evergreen Park

Banquet Cook-With strong culinary skills and attention to detail. The duties include but not limited to: Preperation of all banquet menu items and proper handling/storage of all food items in accordance with chef requirements and standards laid out by the organization. Must demonstrate abilities to work all stations in the kitchen, including concessions if required; Work well under pressure; organize and attain production schedules; operate, clean and maintain all equipment required in job functions; work well with others and the public. Candidates are expected to work event based hours which may include night hours, weekends, and public holidays; must have own means of transportation.

Banquet Prep Cooks-Candidates must have some culinary experience and general understanding of food and beverage operations; candidates are expected to demonstrate the abilities to follow dircections, prepare all assigned food items for assigned cooking station, be efficient and productive during assigned hours; and work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team while performing job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy. This position required the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and current Food Safe certification. This is a part time position that may lead to a full-time employment for a right candidate. Candidates are expected to work event based hours and candidates are expected to work event based hours which may include night hours, weekends, and public holidays; must have own means of transportation.

Short Order Cooks-Candidates must have relevant culinary experience and general understanding of food and beverage operations to run Concessions during events and functions. Candidates are are expected to demonstrate the abilities to prepare all food items that are on a concession menu, be fast and productive and at the same time maintain quality and food safety standards. Candidates are expected to be able to handle high volumes of food preperation during assigned hours and work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team. This position requires the ability to lift and carry 50 lbs and current Food Safe certification. This is a part time position and candidates are expected to work event based hours which may include night hours, weekends, and public holidays; must have own means of transportation.

Cashiers- Must be able to work concessions during event based hours. Candidates must have some relevant experience and the ability to handle large numbers of customers, be flexible and reliable with good communication skills, a positive attitude, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work cohesively with other team members. Current Food Safe certification is preferable. This is a part time position and candidates are expected to work event based hours which may include night hours, weekends, and public holidays; must have own means of transportation.

Bussers-Responsible for setting tables, clearing tables, restocking plates, cutlery and sometimes serving food to guests as runners. Candidates must have good communication skills in case guests have questions while they are out on the floor and must have a commmitement to high-quality customer service. Candidates must be able to handle the high-pressure environment and hugh volumes of tableware and food items. This is a part time position and candidates are expected to work event based hours which may include night hours, weekends, and public holidays and be able to work on their foot for long periods of time; must have own means of transportation.

Valentino McBean under goes surgery following Horse Racing Accident at Evergreen Park.

Grande Prairie, Alberta – VALENTINO MCBEAN suffered serious and potentially career ending injuries in a spill at Evergreen Park on Friday, July 29^th.

In the 3^rd Race McBean was the jockey on PAINTED MAGIC, a 2-year-old with only one previous lifetime start.  Only strides into the race PAINTED MAGIC bolted into the inside rail throwing MCBEAN heavily to the ground. MCBEAN was rendered unconscious and was quickly immobilized and treated by ON.SITE MEDICAL SERVICES staff. He was transported to the Queen Elizabeth II hospital where he underwent surgery to repair damage to his pancreas and one kidney.  In addition to those injuries MCBEAN also suffered a fractured cervical vertebra and a serious concussion.

MCBEAN is expected to make a full recovery in time. Doctors may advise him to not risk further injuries to his neck by participating in such a high risk occupation as professional jockey.

Grande Prairie is all too familiar with the dangers faced by jockeys. Local residents HOLLY CRICHTON and TRAVIS MCNALLY each experience life altering spinal cord injuries while competing as professional jockeys.

To raise funds to assist MCBEAN, who is a native and resident of Jamaica, the local horsemen are staging a series of dog races on Sunday, August 7^th after the live thoroughbred card (first Thoroughbred race post time 1pm).  People in the horse racing community have paid an entry fee to enter their mostly over-pampered pet dogs, of all breeds, in the events. All entry fees and Hamburger sales on Sunday will be donated to McBean.

Live Horse Racing continues at Evergreen Park every Friday and Saturday evening at 6pm and Sunday afternoons at 1pm.

Quarter Horses moved to a more suitable venue – Evergreen Park.

Grande Prairie, Alberta – Two feature Quarter Horse races that were scheduled to be run at Edmonton’s Northlands Park have been rescheduled to Grande Prairie’s Evergreen Park and will be contested on Monday’s (August 1^st) holiday race card.

“A number of factors contributed to the necessity of moving the races.” said Pat Hill, Manager of Horse Racing at Evergreen Park.  “From not enough qualified jockeys in Edmonton to the logistics of wiring the Starting Gate for the specifics of timing Quarter Horse Races.”

“Our job as a racetrack is to get purse money into the pockets of the horse owners so they in turn can reinvest in the industry.  We are ecstatic that the Alberta Quarter Horse Racing Association and Horse Racing Albert have offered us this opportunity. It is yet another opportunity to showcase our exceptional racing surface and racetrack configuration.” Added Hill.

Evergreen Park’s racetrack is one of the best in North America for the racing of Quarter Horses and often hosts world class Quarter Horse races. Even at this, it is so rare for a feature race to be moved that local horsemen can’t remember such an event since the Canadian Derby was loaned to Northlands by Winnipeg’s Assiniboia Downs in 1954.

The races carry purses of just under $20,000 and just under $10,000 respectively and will be conducted as races 7 and 8 on the Monday race card. First Race post time on Monday is 1pm.

Thoroughbred and Quarter Horse Racing is conducted at Evergreen Park now till the end of August on Friday and Saturday nights at 6pm and Sunday afternoons at 1pm.
