Derby Day

Derby Day

Derby Day is the highlight of the season at The Horses @ Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie, bringing a taste of the Kentucky Derby and thrilling thoroughbred racing to northern Alberta.

It’s a day for women, men, and kids alike can show off their fancy hats and outfits for a chance to win a best-dressed prize. The festivities kick off with a signature brunch at 10:30 a.m. in the TARA Energy Services Centre, featuring Evergreen Park chefs’ culinary creations, action stations, and house-made specialties.

Guests then head to J.D.A. Raceway for the 1:15 p.m. start of the pari-mutuel races, including highlight stakes races like the Grande Prairie Oaks and the Grande Prairie Derby, with champions often advancing to the Canadian Derby in Edmonton.

Sip on mint juleps and other signature drinks as you wander Gordon Badger Stadium, watching the horses parade in the paddock and compete on the track.

The 2026 edition of Derby Day will be held on  Sunday, July 26.
