SEASON OPENS WITH FREE HOT DOGS, SEVEN RACES

If you’re coming for the racing, grab a free hot dog on your way in. Or if you’re there for the free hot dogs, make sure you stick around and take in all the racing on opening day of The Horses @ Evergreen Park on Sunday, July 5 at J.D.A. Raceway.

Admission is always free at The Horses @ Evergreen Park and the free hot dogs will last until supplies run out – so get there early!

Maybe start your day with a visit to the Wild Horse Casino & Lounge for the full $8.95 breakfast from 9-11 a.m. and then stick around after for Open Mic Night the $14.95 smashburgers and $6 Bud Light.

There are seven races on Sunday’s card with first post at 1:15 p.m. It is the first weekend of eight over July and August. Racing goes every Saturday and Sunday, and holiday Monday August 3, until Sunday, August 23.

Heading into this season, last year’s champion trainer, Clint Rycroft, and top jockey, Larris Allen, (photo) are back on the track at J.D.A. Raceway.

Allen has mounts on five horses over the course of the day and Rycroft is starting three.

The Evergreen Park Racing Club’s newest horse One More For The Road, gets its first-ever Club start on Sunday.

She is entered in the 7th race against seven other horses with a projected 3:15 p.m. start.85. JUly 5 Free Hot Dogs

Free Hot Dog Day is the first of several special events planned at the races this summer.

The others include:

  • July 12: Baconfest
  • July 19: Wiener Dog Derby
  • July 26: Derby Day
  • August 9: Family Fun Day
  • August 15-16: Memorial Weekend
  • August 23: Mr. Mike’s Paint The Park Purple

 

The Wild Horse Casino & Lounge and Pines Family Restaurant are all part of the same complex at Gordon Badger Stadium at J.D.A. Raceway.

The Casino Lounge and Pines open at 9 a.m. daily. Gaming in the Casino starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 1 a.m. daily.

At the stadium there are betting stations outside and inside as well as a beverage kiosk and tent with tables and chairs. There are also wooden lounge-type chairs. Each chair has a plate honoring a local horse racing pioneer or contributor.

There are also tables, chairs and umbrellas located near the Kids Zone on the north side of the stadium where the large sand pile, with toys, is located.
