Derby Day is the highlight of the racing season at The Horses @ Evergreen Park. It goes Sunday, July 26.
Its a day when men, women and children can show off their fancy Derby attire and have a chance at winning a prize.
For the adults there’s mint juleps and other special drinks.
The day starts in the TARA Energy Services Centre with a Derby Brunch and then continues at J.D.A. Raceway. First post is 1:15 p.m.
On the track the feature races are the GP Derby and the GP Oaks … and other stakes races.
Derby Day is one of several special events held during The Horses @ Evergreen Park.
The others are:
July 5: Free Hot Dog Day – the season opener.
July 12: Baconfest – fundraiser for the County of Grande Prairie Firefighters Charitable Foundation.
July 19: Wiener Dog Derby – dogs running in the dirt. Too much fun!
July 26: Derby Day featuring the GP Oaks and GP Derby and Derby Brunch.
August 9: Family Fun Day – for the kids. All free and all fune!
August 15-16: Memorial Weekend – honoring those who are no longer with us who have made an impact on the sport of horse racing.
August 23: Mr. Mike’s Paint The Park Purple – Race For The Cure. This is to create awareness about pancreatic cancer.
There is no admission fee and racing goes every Saturday and Sunday (and holiday Monday, August 3) until August 23.
First post for every race day is 1:15 p.m.
There is a beverage tent, indoor and outdoor betting stations, and both the Pines Family Restaurant and Wild Horse Casino & Lounge are located in the same venue. A $8.95 full breakfast (9-11 a.m.) is the feature menu item at both the restaurant and lounge.
The restaurant and lounge open at 9 a.m. and betting on the 99 slot machines and VLTs starts at 10 a.m. The restaurant is open until 8 p.m. and the casino until 1 a.m. daily.
