In most years, this is a live event at The Bow building in Calgary, Alberta, but this year will be a virtual event – with new ways to involve and engage participants.
What remains the same is that individuals and teams will still have to climb the same number of stairs as The Bow building, 1,204 steps (774 vertical feet), and firefighters will climb in full duty gear.
Originally inspired by Kathy Blas, sister of local fallen firefighter Gord Paul, the event and its proceeds support firefighters and citizens who are fighting cancer.
This event is made possible thanks to the generous support and involvement of the Calgary Fire Department, the International Association of Firefighters Local 255 and event sponsors.
The Grande Prairie Disc Golf Club is hosting the provincials, presented by Playfair Promo and Athletics, August 14-15 and one of the three courses they will be using for the Alberta championship is Evergreen Park.
There will be three rounds on two of three courses, a skills competition, mini games and prizes.
Area municipalities are showing their appreciation to volunteers in the community with a free drive-in movie event on April 23 and 24 at Grande Sunset Theatre in the TARA Centre parking lot at Evergreen Park.
